About the industry
The chemical industry is one of the most significant industrial sectors in Finland. It makes for about a fifth of Finland’s industrial manufacturing and export and employs directly, indirectly and through revenue effects around 100 000 people.
The chemical industry has a significant impact on the well-being of Finns through job creation, tax revenue, and generated value-added, both directly and indirectly, as well as through income effects:
- 10 jobs in the chemical industry create 18 jobs elsewhere in the economy
- Three jobs in the chemical industry lead to the creation of 4 jobs in services
- The chemical industry generates an annual value-added of nearly ten billion euros in Finland
- One billion euros in value-added in the chemical industry generates an additional value-added of 0.9 billion euros in other sectors.
- The chemical industry contributes to an annual tax revenue of over 3 billion euros in Finland.
